Nominations
Each year, UMTA members have the opportunity to nominate outstanding teachers for awards such as the UMTA Legacy Award, UMTA Advocacy in Action Award, and MTNA Foundation Fellow Award.
The Legacy Award recognizes teachers who have created a great legacy for the music community. Criteria for consideration include having a membership of at least 10 years in UMTA and MTNA, and service as an officer at the local or state level. Professional accomplishments, service to the community, and the nurturing and mentoring of students are also taken into consideration. Nominations are made and then privately voted on by the executive board.
The Advocacy through Action Award honors a UMTA member, community members such as music programs, schools, teachers, arts and music festivals, or other organizations and individuals who have exemplified exceptional dedication to the betterment of their community through music and the arts. Their extraordinary service and achievements merit recognition by the Utah Music Teachers Association.

The first fellows were named in the year 2000 at the MTNA Conference. The funds MTNA receives enable teachers to receive Enrichment Grants. Funds are available for private study, specific college-level coursework, or other projects.
