GERI GIBBS, NCTM, is an independent music teacher, active adjudicator, lecturer and church musician. Encouraged by exceptional teachers and educators, she knew early on that her passion for music, ability to explain it, and love for young people had found a compatible union in teaching. At age 14, while studying in England, she was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, but her family returned to the U.S., where she began teaching at age 15 and studied with Lennox Larson at the University of Utah.

CHERYL NORMAN (left), NCTM, had a mother whose love of music and sacrifice for piano lessons are the reason Cheryl loves music and teaching. She also loved her piano instructors growing up. Their enthusiasm and careful mentoring are the reason music is her passion and career. For the past 30 years Utah MTA and MTNA members are her “family”--sharing all that is beautiful in music, mentoring, love, and friendship. Her best friends (including her archaeologist husband) are musicians. Her students are her daily musical family—she feels privileged to have shared hours of music with many talented Utah students. Her greatest joy is her family of three married, musical and artistic daughters and 18 musical grandchildren (one has been accepted as a Composition major in the BYU Music Department).
Service to UMTA/MTNA Cheryl Norman-NCTM is grateful for opportunities to serve on the MTNA Board of Directors (2012-2014), National Certification Commission (2007-2010), MTNA-SPAC Chairman (2006-2007), UtahMTA State President (2004-2006), plus writing AMT Articles (2007, 2009). She earned a Masters Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy (BYU-1994) and has been an Adjunct Professor at BYU and UVU. Cheryl gives lectures on Music History and Certification at State, Division and National meetings, and has performed in the Western US (including Gina Bachauer Recital series-1994), China, Italy, Mexico and Guatemala.
